Experimental timeline. The rats were randomly assigned to four groups according to when the end-point evaluation was performed (0, 3, 7, and 14 days following the final noise exposure). Each group was further subdivided into control and exposed subgroups, in which the animals were subjected to 30 successive days of noise exposure as indicated by the gray area within the 30-day period. Sham (no noise) exposure, as indicated by the blank segments in the 30-day period, was performed on the animals in the control group for 30 days
