  1. Model 1: adjusted only for sex and age. Model 2: further adjusted for body mass index, systolic blood pressure, alcohol consumption (never drinker, former drinker, current drinker [<23, 23–45, 46–68, and ≥69 g/week]), smoking status (never smoker, former smoker, current smoker), history of stroke, HDL-cholesterol, triglycerides, HbA1C, and serum creatinine. Short stature is defined as a height level at or under the 25th percentile of the study population (<158.0cm for men and <145.0 cm for women). Reduced maximum voluntary tongue pressure against the palate is defined as the lowest tertile of the study population (<26.5 kPa for men and <24.1 kPa for women)
